A.J.N Richards Collection

Anthony Richards, a fellow undergraduate at Hertford College, Oxford, arrived at Hertford as a scholar. After an interview with Tuan Muda (Rajah's brother), he was selected for the Sarawak Civil Service. Anthony embarked on a journey to Sarawak aboard a Blue Funnel ship from Birkenhead on the Mersey, and later took passage on the S.S. Vyner Brooke to Kuching.

Throughout his career in Sarawak, Anthony dedicated himself to studying the Iban language and customs. Upon retirement, he completed his scholarly work, presenting the Iban-English dictionary.
