Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub (PeTARY) - The Library of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak


Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (PeTARY), the Library of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was established in 1993. The Library was officiated on 17 January 1995 by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia at that time, with the name Centre for Academic Information Services (CAIS). However after 26 years being known as CAIS, the Library is now gazetted as Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (PeTARY), named after the late Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub, who was the third Chief Minister of Sarawak and also the fourth Head of the State of Sarawak.

The Library and its three branches form an integral part of UNIMAS as provider of information resources, library services, and facilities in support of learning, teaching, and scholarly needs of its community.

As a fundamental partner in the University's research and learning ecosystem, the Library proactively support research activities by providing relevant resources both print and electronic, facilitating scholarly communication, and promoting research output, keeping pace with a dynamic and rapidly evolving information environment and creating distinctive opportunities for users to encounter global thought.

As part of its commitment towards providing quality services, the Library’s key processes such as purchasing of books and media, serials subscriptions, cataloguing, loan services and inter library loan is certified to MS 1SO 9001:2008 and later MS ISO 9001:2015.

Equipped with sound IT infrastructure, the Library functions as an integrated user-oriented centre for the acquisition, processing and dissemination of information and knowledge which fits in with the University’s overall objective to establish an information-rich culture.

Library Collection

The Library now has more than 263,000 volumes of books, bound journals, and audio-visual materials. In addition to its physical collection, the Library subscribes to a comprehensive array of e-resources. It currently provides access to:

  • 24 online databases
  • 1.6 million+ electronic resources
  • 12,000+ local content

Services and Facilities

The Library offers a variety of services and facilities such as a big exhibition area, an auditorium, seminar rooms, discussion rooms, computer laboratories, carrel rooms, media room, and a 24-hour learning facility. A variety of communication channels are maintained for enquiries, including Consultancy Desk, via telephone and email, as well as WhatsApp and Social Media.
